The Great Indian Middle class !!!

Recently, I got to witness a chat show on "CNN Ibn" on the Indian middle class. Personalities from various fields had shared their views on what they thought of the Indian middle class. I've tried to compile a few lines here based on the way I perceive the Indian Middle class:

1.They may very well earn over 30 lakhs per annum, but would still prefer to be called the "Middle class"

2.Its that class which does buy a car to showcase it's status to the rest of the society, but still doesn't use it enough on account of rising fuel prices.

3.It's the class that talks more about politics without caring to vote in elections.

4.It is a class that firmly believes in the professional education and secure income. Innovation is strictly forbidden unless someone has already been successful trying something new.

5.It is a class that boasts of American education for their sons and hunts for Nri's for their daughters.

6.It's a class that is both satisfied and desirous at the same time.

7.It's a class that still bargains for that one rupee more that the vegetable vendor may be asking for.

8.It's a class that buys a mobile phone, but still relies heavily on office phones and missed calls .

9.It's a class that's circumspect about attending parties thrown by friends owing to fear of reciprocation.

10.It s a class that prefers to booze at home, than waste money at an expensive pub.

11.It's a class that still parks it's vehicle at a friend's place, rather than paying those 5 bucks as Parking charges.

12.It's a class that cribs a lot about bad driving on the road and drives on the platforms.

13.It's a class that wishes to see the Hero and heroine get married in movies but turn red faced if their sons/daughters were to propose a love marriage.

14.It's a class that still takes more pride in their ward working in Infosys than in Microsoft.

15.It's a class that still takes more pride in their ward graduating from Stanford than from IIm's.

1.They may very well earn over 30 lakhs per annum, but would still prefer to be called the "Middle class"

Because there is still an upper class which earns upwards of Rs. 1 crore a month

6.It's a class that is both satisfied and desirous at the same time.

Nothing wrong with that. Wanting more should not stop me from being happy with I have.

13.It's a class that wishes to see the Hero and heroine get married in movies but turn red faced if their sons/daughters were to propose a love marriage.

No way... this resistance is more in the upper and lower classes if at all than in the "middle class". Personal experiences.

9.It's a class that's circumspect about attending parties thrown by friends owing to fear of reciprocation.

No... come on now.

10.It s a class that prefers to booze at home, than waste money at an expensive pub.

Money's never easy come... so why easy go. Is this a bad thing?

Did I come back too late? Did you close entries to the argument contest?

1. But, wat about the middle class that's still drawing peanuts(1 lakh) per month ?? The growiing economic gap has to be bridged right from here...

6.Nothin to argue in here..I wasn't calling it wrong..I was only mentioning one more trait of middle class..wouldnt complain of it knowing that, I am no exception to this trait :).

13.Am surprised U hav an objection with this...I've seen enuf of it with different frnds and I am quite sure of wat I shud anticipate from my parents if I were do so :) ...But, yeah this can't be a generic statement..Ther r still those broadminded parents who dont expect any filial obligation in the form of an arranged marriage..For now, their numbers are as few as the number of syntax errors on my newly written script (Now dont worry ther would be many ther...am not that gr88 a programmer) :)

9.U can argue with that...Not many r like tat...But , U cant deny that ther r a few...I had a couple of frnds too(wouldnt wanna name them), one of whom very openly gave this reason..yeah, this generation s much diff aneway..But, the issue here is U dont see it in upper and lower class coz, lower class is too destitute to afford one and doesnt receive one either coz their society is as poor and as for upper class, they thrive on parties, as though they would b dead the day they give up partying...

10.Nothing wrong provided u dont make helluva noise late in the night while boozing and disturb a peaceful neighbourhood..But this is a rarity...When u booze, U r on a high and noise becomes inevitable..I ve heard multiple stories of late night arguments between drunk bachelors and the so called family men in the neighbourhood...Infact, I ve been thru one myself when we earned the wrath of our neighbour owing to one of ma roomies who came back home drunk...If it cud be so bad when u jus come bak drunk, imagine the magnitude of the problem when U do the same at home..And yeah, this is again an exquisite middle class trait...While the upper class is cash rich to squander away money in expensive pubs, the lower class prefers the local harrack shops...And yeah, drinking is fine if it s at home, but boozing(heavy drinking) could b tricky and pose a big challenge to the hapless neighbours....

And yeah, Thnks for pouring in u'r comments.. I was bound to respond to someone who follows my blog regularly..pardon delays
